Barista OR Barista/Restaurant Supervisor
The Garden is a 100-seat relaxed social dining venue in the heart of Berry and we are currently open 8am-3pm, 7 days a week. We have a focus on ‘local’ – from produce to retail products, and ever-changing art exhibitions on our walls.
Some of our valued team members are heading off to uni and we therefore have a full-time opportunity for an experienced Barista to join our front of house team. This position also has the potential to be a dual role for the right person; joining our management team and taking on the responsibility of supervising some shifts throughout the week (and paid more accordingly).
We use locally roasted coffee from the award-winning team at The Daily Grind, including regularly changing single origin offerings. You’ll get to work with great equipment, including a Slayer coffee machine. We provide a free meal on every rostered break and unlimited coffee during your shift. There’s also a generous staff discount for you, and any friends/family dining with you, if you come in on your day off.
We're looking for someone who loves coffee and is keen to constantly learn and improve; whilst also being calm and upbeat under pressure. Basic latte art skills are required, but we want someone who is just as passionate about the quality of the extraction as they are about how pretty the cup of coffee looks going out! You will need to be comfortable adjusting the grind as frequently as is needed to ensure the perfect cup of coffee; but training is provided if this is something you are new to. RSA will be required, as you’ll also pour wines, beers and spirits and shake up cocktails (bar training can be provided).
Management experience isn’t a ‘must’ for those interested in the dual Restaurant Supervisor role. So, if you are an experienced hospitality professional and ready to take the next step in your career, we’d love to hear from you.
Must be available to work weekends, but your rostered days off can be negotiated. We can also consider permanent part-time for the right person.
Apprentice Chef
We are currently looking for a 1st year Apprentice Chef to join our busy kitchen team at The Garden. One Apprentice recently completed their qualification with us and is still with the team, and another is taking maternity leave later this year. We like to always be training the next wave of chefs, and so this means we have an additional opportunity within our team.
We have a focus on using fresh seasonal produce and sourcing local where possible. Almost all products are made in-house from scratch, and we also jar and sell products like jam and pickles. We don’t offer your average café fare and you will have a chance to learn and use techniques usually seen in restaurants.
We are big believers in hiring on attitude and passion, and so we will consider any type of kitchen or hospitality experience. Full on-the-job training will be provided, and you will attend TAFE one day a week. You will be involved in all aspects of prep, breakfast and lunch service in a café/restaurant that trades 7-days a week. We have 3 full-time qualified chefs, a casual qualified chef, and a 1st year apprentice within our team - and so you’ll have the opportunity to work with and learn from a variety of people.
We do work hard, and it is a very fast paced venue in our busy periods! But we have fun whilst working and we're proud of the great culture, engagement, and staff retention that we have. Culture fit is key, and we are looking for a team player. You must have a genuine passion for food and a desire to learn more and constantly develop your skills.
