Position Vacant - Full-Time Chef

We currently have a rare opportunity for a full-time chef to join our busy kitchen team at The Garden. After 6.5 years working for the business, one of our core team members is moving to a different area later this year and leaving big shoes to fill. Whilst they are still currently employed, we have flexibility with the start date for this role and we can start someone immediately and have cross-over, or wait a couple of months for someone to start if that is preferred.

We have a focus on using fresh seasonal produce and sourcing local where possible. Almost all products are made in-house from scratch, and we also jar and sell products like jam and pickles. Our menus change seasonally, and we would love to have someone else who contributes creatively to this process.

Our management and ownership team values and prioritises work-life balance for our hardworking employees and our team works 38–40 hours/week or accrue time in lieu during the busy periods where they clock-up more hours. We do work hard, and it is a very fast paced venue in our busy periods! But we have fun whilst working and we're proud of the great culture, engagement, and staff retention that we have. Culture fit is key, and we are looking for a team player.

We're always looking to improve, and we appreciate and encourage ideas and feedback from all our employees. This position works within a team of 4 full-time members, alongside 2 qualified Chefs and one 3rd year Apprentice Chef. Looking to the future, we would see this person stepping up into a Sous Chef role in the coming year or two.

Position Vacant - Apprentice Chef

We currently have an opportunity for a 1st year Apprentice Chef to join our busy kitchen team at The Garden. Our current Apprentice is in his 3rd and final year and as we have an approach of always growing and always training the next wave of chefs and employees, we are looking for another apprentice to join our team.

We have a focus on using fresh seasonal produce and sourcing local where possible. Almost all products are made in-house from scratch, and we also jar and sell products like jam and pickles. We don’t offer your average café fare and you will have a chance to learn and use techniques usually seen in restaurants.

We are big believers in hiring on attitude and passion and so we will consider any type of kitchen or hospitality experience. Full on-the-job training will be provided, and you will attend TAFE one day a week. You will be involved in all aspects of prep, breakfast and lunch service in a café/restaurant that trades 7-days a week. We have 3 full-time qualified chefs, a casual qualified chef, and a 3rd year apprentice within our team - and so you’ll have the opportunity to work with and learn from a variety of people.

We do work hard, and it is a very fast paced venue in our busy periods! But we have fun whilst working and we're proud of the great culture, engagement, and staff retention that we have. Culture fit is key, and we are looking for a team player. You must have a genuine passion for food and a desire to learn more and constantly develop your skills.

Philip Miles – ‘Art-WORK’

"This year I am retiring as a professional artist. A common response to this news is ‘How can you retire from something that isn’t work in the first place?’ This is a misunderstanding! To use the words of Thomas Edison, good art is 99% perspiration and only 1% inspiration. In this exhibition I wish to explain a bit about the work that lies behind the oil paintings I have produced over the last 16 years. There will be paintings from different stages of my career on display, though most will be recent ones." Philip Miles
