‘let’s talk about art’ reveals the contrasts and contradictions of Gennifer’s approach to storytelling in art; all the good things and the bad things, while being a reflection of life. Conflicting qualities of order and chaos, joy and sorrow, light and dark can and do coexist and bounce off each other. Art, like life, is always beautiful, it’s the emotional power of art that is sometimes unsettling, complex or disturbing. It can depend on how close you look and what you bring to the looking. Then again, sometimes a pretty face is just a pretty face… The title of each work is an insight into the nature of the story.
Gennifer’s art practice is a dance of polar opposites. She creates mixed media works with resin and recycled materials and works with acrylics, pastels, oils, stencils, aerosols, whatever is at hand. She cares about the environment and likes to use found items and then seal or highlight areas with resin to bring out the richness of colour, experiment, and hold everything together. Gennifer says “My art is how I sing, dance and pray! It’s certainly how I communicate and reflects my love for the natural environment and awe of man-made wonders. I want my art to capture the experience of life with openness and joy. I hope it connects with people who might sometimes feel out of step, bringing peace and joy through a sense of belonging.”
‘let’s talk about art’ will be on display from Thursday the 8th of February until Tuesday the 5th of March. All paintings are available to purchase.
