Marc Poisson & Janetha Poisson Lyon Exhibition – Coastal Essays in Oils

December 15, 2022 @ 9:00 am - January 11, 2023 @ 3:00 pm

Marc Poisson and Janetha Poisson-Lyon return to The Garden with their enchanting exhibition Coastal Essays in Oils.  This exhibition will be on display from Thursday 15 December 2022 until Wednesday 11th January 2023.

‘An exciting exhibition in testimony to the beauty and atmosphere of our South Coast Landscapes with emphasis on striking light effects that accentuate the unique appeal of local subjects.

Also highlighted in the paintings of birds, are the sublime colours and characters of native varieties we have come to enjoy and love so much.’

Marc enjoys the lyrical movement of light enhancing the stunning beauty of the South Coast – as well as the country in all its seasonal splendour. Good examples are the paintings “Autumn Glow” – Bowral region and “Overlooking Shelly Beach – Gerroa”. The work is colourfully alive with strong brush and palette-knife work, the emphasis always on the light and its appealing effects on the landscape. Other subjects include Gum Trees, Seascapes with also an early morning Berry street scene.

Adding to the variety of the exhibition is Janetha’s carefully crafted works of our rich Australian bird life. Outstanding and striking to look at are her works of the Black Cockatoo, Galahs, Magpies and Pelicans – not forgetting the lovable character captured in her paintings of small Blue Fairy Wrens. While her forte is capturing the liveliness of the eyes, she also manages to portray the attitudes and character of these beautiful creatures in their habitats.

About Marc Poisson

After establishing himself as a well-known artist in South Africa for many years, having sold artworks in various parts of the world such as Canada, US, United Kingdom, Ireland & Japan, he permanently moved to Australia more than two decades ago.

For fifteen years in Sydney he was unable to adjust to painting Australian subjects. Then, after working for a number of years at the Wollongong Regional Art Gallery, where he worked with many of the old master Australian artists, he suddenly regained his inspiration – having absorbed what makes this country so special for artists.

Since then his painting ability has grown in stature, artwork flowing constantly from a deep appreciation of the beauty surrounding us. His works now include warm glowing subjects of Sydney Harbour, the Coastal Illawarra towns & beaches, seascapes & country scenes among many others.
Many of the works painted depict an almost iconic version of appealing subjects in the vitality of his colourful paintings – produced in impasto brushwork and palette knife.

The celebration & joy of the beauty of our sun-drenched land are portrayed in his expressions of regained inspiration. We look forward to following his renewed journey of creativity.

About Janetha Poisson-Lyon

Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) in 1969, Janetha from an early age loved art, especially drawing figures and portraits which seemed to come naturally.

After marrying the well-known South African artist, Marc Poisson, over 20 years ago, she has, over time, became adept at painting in oils. She loved painting figures with strong narratives, then branched out to large flower studies, and now capturing the beauty of our beautiful Australian birds in their natural habitat.

Currently she’s been enjoying success exhibiting at Artist’s school exhibitions such as Portland (Lithgow), and now at art shows in Thirroul, Wollongong, Shellharbour Village, Stockland Mall Shellharbour, Pyree, Nowra and in Berry.

She is now becoming more well known on social media selling countrywide.

As a mainly self-taught artist, she paints subjects that “touch the emotions of persons who enjoy the beauty of our surroundings”, emphasising strong draughtsmanship in a fluid style with a warm, colourful palette.

“My chosen subject matter evokes the charm, colour and excitement I find in nature and which brings the joy that enriches my life, and hope it does yours.”
