We are delighted to welcome back local artist Kathy Karas, with her exhibition ‘Whispers of the Canopy’.
“As an artist, my work has always been deeply intertwined with the natural world, and in this exhibition, I invite you to explore the profound beauty and significance of trees through my paintings. Trees are not merely elements of our landscape; they are living beings that tell stories of endurance, resilience, and connection.
In this collection, I have sought to capture the diverse forms, colours, and textures of trees, from the ancient canopy trees of our local rainforests that stand as monuments of time, to the coastal trees that line our waterways. Each piece is an exploration of not only the physical attributes of trees but also their emotional resonance. Trees have long been symbols of life, growth, and renewal, and through my brushstrokes, I aim to convey their silent wisdom and the serenity they provide.
My approach with a touch of abstraction, allows the viewer to engage with the essence of each tree beyond its visual representation. I am particularly fascinated by the interplay of light and shadow in the foliage, which I believe reflects the duality of existence – the harmony of life and the inevitability of change.
This exhibition is also a call to mindfulness and reflection on our relationship with nature. In a world increasingly dominated by technology and urbanisation, I hope to inspire a sense of reverence for the natural world and encourage conversations about conservation and sustainability. Each painting serves as a reminder of the vital role trees play in our ecosystem, providing shelter, oxygen, and a sense of peace. May these artworks inspire you to look closer, to listen to the whispers of the canopy, and to find beauty in the simple yet profound presence of these magnificent beings.” Kathy Karas
‘Whispers of the Canopy’ will be on display until Wednesday the 2nd of April and all paintings are available for purchase.
