Philip Miles is a landscape painter based in Nowra on the South Coast of NSW. He paints exclusively in oil as his chosen medium but employs the wide range of the techniques that oil painting makes possible. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and it’s ever changing phases, the exhibition ‘Seasons’ makes visible the beauty of our surrounds through art.
Philip paints in a range of styles from very detailed to more abstract treatments, and also does subjects other than strict landscape paintings.
Philip has been painting professionally for about fifteen years and has won a large number of awards for his work. He has also had articles on his work published in ‘International Artist’ and ‘Australian Artist’ magazines (these are on display in a binder for your perusal – ask the cafe staff if you can’t find it).
Philip has lived in the US and Japan as well as Australia and is inspired by American painters such as Andrew Wyeth and Grant Wood or Japanese artists such as Hasegawa Tohaku and Mitsumasa Anno. He also enjoys the work of illustrators such as Victor Ambrus and Norman Hepple.
All of the works shown in the exhibition are for available for purchase. Philip has done a number of commissions and is happy to discuss ideas with anyone who would like him to do a painting for them.
You can see more of Philip’s work on Facebook or email him on [email protected] for more information.
