Philip Miles Exhibition – Beauty and the Beast: Landscapes Before and After Fire

Beauty and the Beast: Landscapes Before and After Fire’. Fire is a beast which can destroy a beautiful landscape, yet it also creates a new kind of beauty in its wake. The five paintings in the exhibition related to fire, capture some of this. Three of them were painted after the severe fires at the beginning of 2020.
About the Artist
Philip Miles is a painter based in Nowra who works mainly in oil, painting a wide variety of landscapes and related themes. He was born with a love of drawing and painting, which was honed in high school studying technical drawing and art. He has been working part-time as an artist since 2008.
In that time Philip has been published a number of times in Australian Artist Magazine and three times in International Artist Magazine. He has also won a number of prizes in local exhibitions, especially the Shoalhaven Art Society and Kiama Art Society shows.
As well as the Shoalhaven, Philip has lived in the Blue Mountains, rural USA, and also Japan for fifteen years. He has been influenced by the landscapes he has seen in these places and also by a number of the local artists of each countries.
This exhibition contains a range of Philip’s landscape works, including a few painted after the recent fires.
