Jenny Asquith Exhibition – Sink or Swim

October 24, 2020 @ 8:00 am - November 18, 2020 @ 3:00 pm

We are very pleased to host Jenny Asquith’s latest exhibition “Sink or Swim” at The Garden from Saturday 24th October – Wednesday 18th November.

The exhibition features colourful contemporary imagery of rocks and water, dancing leaves and ephemeral bubbles – in compositions that portray the dichotomy between stillness and flow and express being grounded and centred as well as the transcendent feeling of freedom and lightness of being. The figures in some of the artworks are intentionally ambiguous; raising questions as to whether the figures are swimmers, angels, or mermaids.

Jenny’s art is inspired by the ebb and flow of life’s experiences and by nature. Water is often used as a metaphor in her work: exploring the visual possibilities of reflection, buoyancy, risk and sensuous flowing movement. There is an ambiguity in the imagery to create a sense of feeling, memory or experience. You may find yourself in the quiet, stillness of underwater, or flying along in the turbulent waves.

Jenny paints in her studio in Kiama but she fills her visual diaries with drawings on her many active and adventurous travels. Her work ranges from large, vibrant murals to small contemplative images. She uses traditional techniques in oil painting and printmaking (etching) to create art in a contemporary style.
